Giles receives award

Sandy Giles, Senior Pastor of First Methodist Church of Waynesville, was honored with the first "We Nailed It" award presented at our Annual Meeting in June. The award is reserved for persons who make a substantial impact on the organization through volunteerism. Giles was recognized for his vision and leadership in the project where all of the Haywood County Methodist churches volunteered and raised the funds to build a Habitat home for a qualifying family. It was at Giles' urging that the organization embarked on the project, the first of its kind in Haywood Habitat's 28 year history. Executive Director Jamye Sheppard said, "Sandy is the kind of person that sees a need and does something about it. His work has had an extraordinary impact on the family that moved into the home, and on our organization. The Methodist build has placed us in a period of volunteer growth unlike any we've experienced in many years. He has inspired us all."
