A Place to Play, Gather, and Grow

Through a generous grant from Republic Services’ National Neighborhood Promise program, Haywood Habitat for Humanity is transforming an underused green space in Waynesville into the Hope Builders Playground—a welcoming place where children can play, families can gather, and neighbors can connect. Haywood Habitat was selected as one of only 14 grant recipients nationwide, bringing this exciting investment directly to our Haywood County community.

Built by Beanstalk Bridges

The Hope Builders Playground is being brought to life by Beanstalk Bridges, a local playground builder specializing in imaginative, nature-based play spaces. Their team is transforming trees into one-of-a-kind play structures, giving these materials new purpose while creating a space for joy, exploration, and connection.

Through their craftsmanship, the playground will reflect the natural beauty of Haywood County while offering local children a place designed especially for them.

What the Project Will Include

Play

• A natural play structure for children
• Stepping stones and nature-focused play elements
• Space for exploration and imaginative play

Gather

• A pavilion and community gathering area
• A walking path with multiple access points
• Welcoming spaces for neighbors of all ages

Grow

• Native plants and pollinator gardens
• Creek stabilization and improved stormwater management
• Removal of invasive plant species
• Restoration of the surrounding natural environment

More than a Playground

Safe outdoor spaces play an important role in building healthy, connected communities. The Hope Builders Playground will give children a place to explore, offer families a place to spend time together, and create more opportunities for neighbors to know and support one another.

The project will also improve access to the property, support flood resiliency, and restore the natural environment surrounding the neighborhood.

A Community-Built Project

Like every Habitat project, the Hope Builders Playground is being built through partnership. Haywood Habitat is working alongside the Town of Waynesville, Republic Services, Haywood Waterways, Asheville GreenWorks, Beanstalk Bridges, local contractors, volunteers, and other community partners to bring this vision to life.

Help us Finish the Playground

The playground is taking shape, but we still need our community’s help to complete the vision. Your gift will help create a safe, welcoming place where Haywood County children and families can play, gather, and grow together.
