Meet Penny, the proud homeowner of the last new home constructed in Walton Woods, Haywood Habitat's first all Habitat home neighborhood. Penny, who works at a local grocery store, and her elementary aged son, Adam, were able to move into their forever home at the end of April. They had been living in public housing with no real opportunities to move into something more stable and safe, and definitely no opportunities for homeownership. Penny learned of the Habitat program through a local newspaper ad and decided to take a chance and apply. She qualified! Fast forward eight months and 200 hours of sweat equity later and she is now a homeowner in a beautiful, safe new neighborhood that even has a private playground where Adam can play with his new friends.
